EDION Group recognizes that responding to climate change is one of its important management issues, and is working to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities by promoting a variety of initiatives.
Promotion of energy-saving home appliances
EDION Group is promoting the spread of energy-saving home appliances that are kind to the environment and the household budget. By providing energy-saving home appliances and services, we aim to create a society that tackles environmental issues With Our Customers.
Additionally, we support the "Cool Choice" initiative, which promotes efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to creating a carbon-free society, and are carrying out the following activities:
- Implementation of environmental education for employees
- Creation of a booklet promoting energy saving and distribution to customers
- In-store broadcasting recommended for energy-saving products
- Post posters, panels, etc. recommended for energy-saving products in the store
Promoting energy creation and conservation in stores nationwide
It is recognized that the increase in CO2 emissions due to the increased energy consumption accompanying various economic activities has accelerated global warming and has had a serious impact on the global environment. Aiming to operate in a way that reduces CO2 emissions, we are promoting the introduction of energy-saving equipment such as LED lighting and clean energy equipment, and are also working to realize a decarbonized society by providing energy-saving products and services and carrying out activities to help people understand their importance.
Installation of solar power generation system
We have installed solar power generation systems at 80 stores and service centers across the country. The total amount of power generated in fiscal 2023 is expected to reach 5,471,000 kWh, contributing to a reduction of more than 2,300 tons of CO2 per year. In addition, from fiscal 2022, we will be introducing new solar power generation equipment under the PPA model* in order to expand the use of renewable energy. We will continue to work on utilizing renewable energy with the aim of realizing a circular and carbon-free society.
PPA (Power Purchase Agreement): Power purchase agreement (third-party model)
A contract type in which a company or local government provides space such as the roof of its facility or unused land to the PPA operator, who then installs power generation equipment in that space free of charge. The electricity generated is consumed by the company or local government at its own facility, and the company pays the PPA operator for the amount of electricity used.
Promotion of introduction of LED lighting, energy-saving air conditioning, and BEMS
We are promoting the introduction of LED lighting, which is resource-saving, has a long life span, and consumes less power, as well as a switch to energy-efficient air conditioning and the introduction of the Building Energy Management System (BEMS).

About "Nearly ZEB" certified stores
Under the Building Energy Efficiency Labeling Scheme (BELS), we have obtained "Nearly ZEB" certification for some of our stores that opened in 2023. BELS is a system in which a third-party assessment organization evaluates and certifies the energy-saving performance of buildings, and our Gifu Masaki store is the first in EDION Group to receive this certification.
What is ZEB?
An abbreviation for Net Zero Energy Building, this refers to a building that aims to reduce annual primary energy consumption to zero by streamlining the energy consumed within the building. There are four levels of achievement:
The definition of ZEB is divided into four stages according to the level of achievement.
- ZEB A building that reduces primary energy consumption to below 0% through energy conservation and energy creation
- Nearly ZEB A building that has reduced primary energy consumption by 25% or less through energy conservation and energy creation
- ZEB Ready A building that has reduced primary energy consumption by 50% or less through energy conservation measures
- ZEB Oriented A new category established for large buildings that are difficult to convert to "ZEB"
Various benefits of ZEB
1. Economic Effects
With the recent rise in fuel prices, electricity bills are also on the rise, but by realizing a ZEB, running costs can be reduced. The initial cost of capital investment is by no means small, but when balanced with running costs, it is possible to achieve both economic and environmental friendliness.
2. Improving spatial quality
Generally, energy conservation and power saving are thought of as something that one has to endure, but by converting to a ZEB, the noise of the air conditioning will be quieter and the temperature and humidity will be stabilized. This will allow customers to enjoy shopping in a comfortable space, and we can expect to see improvements in the ease of working of store staff and their productivity.
3. BCP* measures for emergencies
Even if a natural disaster cuts off the external power supply, stores that have reduced energy consumption through ZEB initiatives will be able to continue business activities for a certain period of time using only renewable energy generated by solar power. Initially, ZEB initiatives were aimed at achieving the goal of decarbonization, but they have also produced various benefits and led to increased corporate value.

Installation of charging station for electric vehicles
In order to contribute to the spread of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) through infrastructure development and toward the realization of a decarbonized society, we have installed charging stations for EVs and PHVs at 38 stores nationwide. Masu. It uses a 200V normal charging stand with a short charging time, and is compatible with car models from various manufacturers such as Prius PHV (Toyota), Imive (Mitsubishi), and Leaf (Nissan).
Providing services that realize energy saving and power saving
Using energy efficiently and reducing the impact on the natural environment is recognized as one of the most important environmental conservation efforts. In order to improve energy efficiency, it is important to understand the state of energy usage and take appropriate measures. An energy management system (EMS) that supports optimal energy usage makes energy usage visible and enables general energy management such as management and analysis, leading to more efficient energy usage. EDION has developed the EMS for homes, "EDISMA HEMS*," and the EMS for stores and buildings, "EDISMA BEMS," as its business, and is contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases by providing services that achieve energy conservation and power saving.
